Two women were arrested early Monday on suspicion of possessing stolen property and conducting a major counterfeiting operation out of a Cypress hotel, authorities said.

“This looks like a fairly good-sized operation,” said Sgt. Steven Ramsey, a spokesman for Cypress police. “We won’t know the full extent until our detectives look into it further.”

Anna Marie Franks, 26, of Seal Beach and Rebecca Lupe Gonzalez, 36, of Santa Ana were arrested about 7:30 a.m. after police received a tip that Franks, the subject of several arrest warrants, was at the Homestead Village Hotel on Corporate Avenue.

Officers said they found both women in a room with several hundred stolen checks, driver’s licenses, prescription blanks and money orders and a color printer. They also found small amounts of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, police said.

“Some preliminary investigation showed that the checks were stolen from mailboxes across Southern California, from Los Angeles to Corona,” Ramsey said.

The women were taken to Orange County Jail, where bail was set at $40,000 for Franks. Gonzalez is being held without bail, Ramsey said.
