Lone Robber Hits Downtown Ventura Bank

Share

A downtown Ventura bank was robbed Tuesday for the second time in three months, and authorities say the robber is responsible for three other local holdups.

Just after noon, a man thought to be in his mid-50s entered Mid-State Bank in the 300 block of Main Street and used both hands to hold up a note demanding money from a teller, said FBI Special Agent Brent Robbins.

No weapon was seen and no one was injured during the holdup.

Robbins said the man, who is described as 5 feet 10 with a gray crew-cut, used the same method to rob a Goleta National Bank branch in Ventura twice in August and a California Federal Bank branch in Oxnard on Aug. 22. The branch hit Tuesday was held up Aug. 10, when it was still owned by American Commercial Bank.

Authorities have a photograph from bank surveillance cameras and are analyzing fingerprints found at the scenes, Robbins said. He was last seen wearing a tan jacket and blue jeans. The man appears to have robbed each bank without using a vehicle, police said.

While there have been serial robbers in Ventura County before, none has gotten away with more than three holdups before being caught, Robbins said.

Anyone with information should call the FBI’s Ventura office at 642-3995.
