Boy Scout Ballot

Share

Michael Warnken’s effort to overturn the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors’ declaration disapproving the Boy Scouts’ discrimination against gay people overlooks a critical point (Oct. 8).

Those who oppose Scouting’s anti-gay policies don’t disagree with him that young people need organizations like the Boy Scouts; they just understand that gay youths need those organizations just as much as nongay youths and that no one needs to have prejudice modeled to them. The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors ought to be applauded--not attacked--for ending government support for organizations that discriminate.
