Clarification on Booster Seats; Car Show Maintains Popularity

Presenters of the California International Auto Show, the first such major event since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, said attendance was within a few percentage points of last year’s record.

Jeff MacPherson, executive director of the Orange County Auto Dealers Assn., said attendance at the show, held last Wednesday through Sunday at the Anaheim Convention Center, was expected to come in about 480,000, just off last year’s 500,000.

“Opening day was big, and Sunday was huge,” he said. “As a human being, it was so encouraging just to see people out [in public] with no fear of touching the handrails.”

MacPherson’s group presents the show annually with the Southland Motor Car Dealers Assn.

Elsewhere at the show, the GMC Envoy was named sport-utility vehicle of the year by Motor Trend magazine, a co-presenter of the show with the auto dealer groups.
