I was appalled to read the news brief about a woman from northern Nigeria who is to be stoned to death for having premarital sex (Oct. 13). The 30-year-old woman became pregnant and the strict Muslim legal code sentenced her after she plead guilty to having sex without being married. The male involved was released. The human rights violations of women are not just occurring in Afghanistan. Muslim extremists are keeping women in shameful conditions and treating them as less than human in many countries.
