Merchant Killed in Sylmar

Police said Thursday they had no suspects or motive in the shooting death of a Granada Hills man whose body was found Wednesday night slumped behind the counter of his Sylmar liquor store.

Ramez Younan, 50, owned Chalet Liquor and Jr. Market in the 14000 block of Hubbard Street, said Det. Frank Bishop of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division.

Although Younan had immigrated to the U.S. from the Middle East, police said there was no evidence to suggest his nationality played a role in his death.

“I have no idea why he was killed or evidence to suggest a motive,” Bishop said.

Younan, who also co-owned a liquor store in Santa Clarita, was married and had two teenage sons, said the eldest, George, 19.

“He always had a smile on his face regardless of what was happening,” he said. “That was his life, that was his whole personality.”
