The National Assn. of Evangelicals has named the Rev. Leith Anderson of Minnesota as interim president.

Anderson succeeds the Rev. Kevin Mannoia, who left the group abruptly in July after donations dropped and questions arose concerning his work to strengthen relations with a more liberal Christian association, the National Council of Churches.

Anderson has served as senior pastor of Wooddale Church in Eden Prairie, Minn., since 1977. The church, affiliated with the Baptist General Conference, also serves as an interdenominational teaching center. Anderson broadcasts a daily radio program called “Faith Matters.”

Anderson is not expected to seek the permanent job of president, spokesman Ric Cizik said. The association has hired a search firm to help review candidates.

Mannoia has been named dean of Azusa Pacific University’s Haggard School of Theology.
