* * * Yesterday’s New Quintet, “Angles Without Edges,” Stone’s Throw. Madlib, a protean L.A. hip-hopper who never seems to run out of ideas, has now put together an album of groovy jazz-funk that echoes Miles Davis’ mid-’70s excursions into trance soul. Full of mellow, Fender Rhodes riffs, clangorous African percussion and spare, gentle melodies, “Angles Without Edges” is more about texture and mood than snappy proficiency. Its amiable, meandering vibes are tailor-made to soundtrack daydreams and reveries.
