Several hundred Army reservists and their guests gathered at the Los Alamitos Armed Forces Reserve Center on Sunday to mark the beginning of a new command.

Members of the Army Reserve’s 63rd Regional Support Command--comprising about 11,500 reserve soldiers in California, Arizona and Nevada--stood in parade formation on the tarmac of the Joint Forces Training Base airfield as Brig. Gen. Robert Ostenberg, the group’s deputy commander, assumed full command.

He took over from Maj. Gen. John L. Scott, who had been commander since 1998 and is moving to a different part of the country.

The ceremony featured a 15-gun salute, music from an Army band and a “pass in review” during which hundreds of soldiers marched past the reviewing stand, said Staff Sgt. John D. Wagner, a reservist spokesman.

About 200 members of the 63rd command have been called to active duty in recent weeks to participate in the government’s war on terrorism, Wagner said.
