An Iranian immigrant who authorities say caused an airliner to return to Los Angeles after he threatened to “kill Americans” pleaded not guilty to interfering with a flight crew.

The federal trial for Javid Naghani, 37, was scheduled for Nov. 27 in Los Angeles.

Naghani, a legal U.S. resident with an office-cleaning business called Cleaning of America, was traveling with his wife to Toronto on Sept. 27 to visit relatives when the Air Canada crew reportedly caught him smoking in a restroom.

Authorities say he told the crew: “If you give me to the authorities, then my people will be mad” and “I am going to kill Americans.”
