Maybe Angels Can Move to Northridge?

Share

I’ve always felt that Marx and Engels were full of it, but recent events have made me think that they may have been on to something with their share-the-wealth idea. Right here in town, we have two perfect examples of deserving have-nots and undeserving haves.

On one hand, Cal State Northridge is citing financial pressures as the reason for dropping a football program manned by kids who are amateurs in the literal sense of the word, playing the game for the love of it.

On the other hand, there’s Mo Vaughn, pulling down almost $17 million a year for doing nothing but sitting on his big, fat butt and bad-mouthing the people who are paying him that exorbitant sum.

If Mo were to be taxed only 8% of his unearned wages, it would be enough to cover all the costs of sustaining football at Northridge, keep 60 kids playing the game for the fun of it, and keep another 15 or 20 people employed coaching, training and administering the program. That would still leave more than enough money to pay the Russians to put Mo in orbit until his Disney contract expires. And the world would be a far better place with the Matadors playing on Saturday and no mo’ Mo.

This story about the merging of the Angels and Marlins has to be from the it-can-only-get-worse department--especially if, as part of the plan, the current Angel players would be dispersed in a draft.

The Angels would lose good young stars like Glaus, Anderson, Erstad, Ortiz and Washburn. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the current Marlins had a worse team than Anaheim. Let’s merge the two, get rid of cancers like Disney, Tony Tavares and Mo Vaughn, keep the good current players, and move forward.

Orange County fans would put up with the Angels blending with the Ducks if that’s what it took to get rid of Disney.
