Video Cameras to Help Improve Traffic Flow
The city is installing video cameras at 12 intersections to help ease traffic problems, officials said.
The $914,000 project involves the installation of 6 miles of electrical conduit and mounting video cameras at four intersections along Garden Grove Boulevard--at Magnolia, Dale, Gilbert and Nelson streets--and another four on Euclid Avenue--at Lampson and Orangewood avenues, and at Century and Westminster boulevards.
The remaining four will be at Brookhurst Street and Lampson, Chapman Avenue and Harbor Boulevard, Magnolia and Trask Avenue, and at Chapman and West Street.
Images from the video cameras will be transmitted to a City Hall control center and will be used to monitor traffic patterns, said Dan Candeleria of the city’s engineering division. This will enable city employees to adjust signal timing to improve traffic flow, he said.
