Tasers Versus Shootings
Re “Deputies Placed on Leave” (Oct. 17), about a knife-wielding man killed by police
Why isn’t every police force using the less-than-lethal alternative of Tasers instead of shooting suspects? This distraught man had the knife blade turned on himself, but the deputies helped him end his life.
Tasers are used by 900 more savvy police departments around the country, including the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and police at Los Angeles International Airport. The new advanced model has been shown to bring down even the toughest resistors. (It will probably be the weapon of choice in aircraft cockpits soon.)
Ventura County, get with the state of the art and stop giving away citizens’ money in lawsuits to the people you unnecessarily kill.
