NOTES
At 42 and with his 12th team, Mike Morgan worked an inning of relief for the Diamondbacks in Game 1 to become the oldest player to participate in a World Series since 43-year-old Joe Niekro pitched in the 1987 Series.
Morgan was thrilled, but his hunting and fishing pals in Utah missed him.
“They called and said, ‘Man, we’re looking at your sleeping bag, your tent, and you’re not there,”’ Morgan said. “I said, ‘Well, that’s a good thing, we’ll have plenty of time later.’ I told ‘em, ‘Hey, maybe you can find a tent somewhere with a satellite dish.”’
What can the Diamondbacks expect in Yankee Stadium?
“I think Ichiro [Suzuki] had the great quote,” Yankee Manager Joe Torre said. “He said, ‘I like playing in Yankee Stadium because they don’t throw anything. All they do is say, you ...’
“But he said it in a nice way because the fans, they want to win, they appreciate good baseball on both sides and they will let you know that.”
