Red Wings Show They Still Are Kings of Road

Mathieu Dandenault, Pavel Datsyuk and Brendan Shanahan scored in the opening eight minutes as the Detroit Red Wings remained undefeated on the road with a 5-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night at Raleigh, N.C.

Detroit won its NHL-best 10th game in 12 tries and improved to 5-0 on the road.

Steve Yzerman and Kris Draper also scored for the Red Wings, who were missing Dominik Hasek because of flu.

Sami Kapanen and Ron Francis scored for Carolina.

Philadelphia 3, Washington 0--Simon Gagne broke a five-game drought with two goals, and Brian Boucher made 32 saves as the Flyers won at Philadelphia.

Pavel Brendl scored his first NHL goal and Mark Recchi and Keith Primeau each had two assists for Philadelphia, outshot 32-18.

Phoenix 3, Buffalo 2--Claude Lemieux stuffed in a rebound midway through the third period, rallying the Coyotes to a come-from-behind victory at Buffalo, N.Y.

Shane Doan and Daniel Briere each had a goal and an assist for the Coyotes.

New York Islanders 3, Florida 2--Mark Parrish scored his league-leading 11th goal as the Islanders remained unbeaten in regulation with a victory over the Panthers at Uniondale, N.Y.

Roman Hamrlik and Mariusz Czerkawski also scored for the Islanders, whose 9-0-1-1 record is best in the NHL.

New Jersey 4, Boston 3--Scott Niedermayer scored his second goal of the game with 4:08 left in overtime to lead the Devils at Boston.

John Madden also scored twice, and Martin Brodeur stopped 27 shots for the Devils, who won their fifth consecutive game.

Byron Dafoe stopped 14 shots, and former King Glen Murray scored twice for Boston.

Toronto 3, Tampa Bay 2--Alyn McCauley, Gary Roberts and Mikael Renberg scored third-period goals as the Maple Leafs won at Toronto.

Curtis Joseph kept Toronto’s third-period lead intact by stopping Vincent Lecavalier’s penalty shot.

Ottawa 6, Atlanta 3--Six different players scored goals at Atlanta as the Senators won their third consecutive game.

Magnus Arvedson, Chris Neil, Daniel Alfredsson, Martin Havlat, Mike Fisher, and Shawn McEachern scored for the Senators, who have climbed back to .500 (6-6-1).

Minnesota 4, Nashville 2--Darby Hendrickson had two goals, including an empty-netter, and an assist as the Wild defeated the Predators at Nashville, Tenn. Andrew Brunette and Sergei Krivokrasov scored the other goals for Minnesota.

Edmonton 3, Montreal 1--Defenseman Janne Niinimaa and Daniel Cleary scored less than two minutes apart in the second period to lead the Oilers at Edmonton, Canada.

Vancouver 3, Columbus 1--Justin Kurtz and Harold Druken scored first-period goals and Ed Jovanovski had two assists to lead the Canucks at Vancouver, Canada.
