He’s Not Making Room on Spark Bandwagon
I’m sorry, but any “sport” that can attract a crowd of less than 7,200 for a game deciding a berth in said league’s championship series is not worthy of front-page reporting!
Why has there been so much coddling of the WNBA within these pages? Sure, the local team is beating up on the opposition and has secured a berth in the league championship series, but judging by the attendance figures during the Sparks’ playoff run (not to mention the abysmal TV ratings), less than one-tenth of 1% of the folks in this town care about the results.
What a contrast in reporting compared to the much-maligned XFL! Even with no coverage to speak of whatsoever in The Times (one often had to get past Curtis Crayon’s horse-racing picks to find a story on the upstart league), the local team still managed to draw at least double what the Sparks attain with continuous front-page coverage ... and they also won a championship!
Has the insidious plague upon society known as political correctness managed to creep into the pages once populated by decidedly non-PC scribes such as Jim Murray, Mike Downey and Scott Ostler?
