Dodger ComplaintsGet Scrubbed Clean

Share

Let me get this straight. Because Chad Kreuter is a “scrub,” his opinion concerning Chan Ho Park’s performance isn’t valid? That’s the type of thinking I’ve grown accustomed to from Dodger fans.

Have you ever heard of Sparky Anderson? Whitey Herzog? Tony La Russa? Tom Kelly? Hey, maybe you’ve heard of this Walter Alston guy someplace. These managers could all be described as “scrubs” who went on to excel as managers.

Jim Tracy (another scrub) is only the latest to demonstrate that it doesn’t take physical abilities to succeed in the cerebral game of baseball.

The only whiff of how the Dodgers played Tuesday was your scatological headline, ‘Brown Effort Goes to Waste.’ Amid the praise dumped on Kevin Brown was zero mention of why the Dodgers lost the game: They couldn’t convert with men on first and third with one out--twice. In the sixth, Joey Cora couldn’t lay down a squeeze bunt. In the eighth, Shawn Green couldn’t get a sacrifice fly.

Rather than a slap on the butt for Brown, nice-guy Jim Tracy should have made Cora and Jeff Shaw run laps in the outfield after the game, to demonstrate to the paying crowd of 39,000 that he’s as committed to winning as he is to being liked by players and the media.
