Why was it worth devoting a major article to the fact that actor Bryan Cranston was overlooked for an Emmy for “Malcolm in the Middle” (“Happily Caught in the Middle,” by Greg Braxton, Aug. 19)? Maybe it’s because Jane Kaczmarek’s shrill and over-the-top performance, the antithesis of good comic acting, makes it impossible to focus on anyone else.
The decibel level of “Malcolm” is one of the reasons I watch HBO. Look how many nominations the actors of “Sex and the City” received. Now that’s an ensemble.
