Last year: Tiger Woods won the last of his nine 2000 titles, holding off Grant Waite by a stroke at Glen Abbey in Oakville, Ontario. Woods joined Lee Trevino (1971) as the only player to win the U.S. Open, British Open and Canadian Open in the same year.

Last week: Joel Edwards won his first tour title, closing with a 65 for a seven-stroke victory in the Air Canada Championship. He matched the tournament record of 19 under.

Notes: Woods is making his 17th start of the season. He beat Jim Furyk on the seventh hole of a playoff two weeks ago in the NEC Invitational for his fifth victory of the year.... John Daly is coming off a victory in Germany, his first win since the 1995 British Open.... Founded in 1873, Royal Montreal is the oldest golf club in North America. The club moved to its current site in 1959.... Steve Jones won the 1997 tournament at Royal Montreal, with Woods missing his first cut as a pro.

Last year: Inaugural event.

Last week: Kate Golden won the State Farm Classic for her first tour title, overcoming a six-stroke deficit to Annika Sorenstam with a final-round 63. Sorenstam finished a stroke back.

Notes: Sorenstam is making her 21st start of the year. The Swede tops the tour with six victories and earnings of $1,599,302. She has an 82-point lead over Se Ri Pak in the player-of-the-year standings.... Karrie Webb is making her first start after a two-week break.

Allianz Championship

Last week: Jim Thorpe won the rain-shortened Kroger Senior Classic, eagling the final hole of regulation and beating Tom Jenkins with a birdie on the first hole of a playoff.

Notes: Bruce Fleisher tops the money list with $2,175,182 and has a 48-point lead over Allen Doyle in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, with the winner getting a $1-million annuity. Fleisher, a three-time winner this year, has 24 consecutive rounds of par or better.

European Masters

Where: Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club (6,857 yards, par 71); Crans-sur-Sierre, Switzerland.

Where: Today-Sunday.

Purse: $1.36 million. Winner’s share: $226,550.

TV: The Golf Channel (today-Sunday, 6-9 a.m.)

Last year: Argentina’s Eduardo Romero won by 10 strokes, shooting 64-68-62-67 to tie the tournament record of 261.

Last week: Daly won the BMW International Open for his first victory since the 1995 British Open, shooting 63-64-68-66 for a 27-under total. He matched the tour mark for relation to par, but it does not count as a record because players were allowed to lift, clean and place in the fairway during the third round.

Notes: South Africa’s Ernie Els is making his first appearance in the tournament since 1992. Craig Stadler, the 1985 winner, also is in the field along with 1999 champion Lee Westwood of England.
