Truck Runs Down, Kills Woman Crossing Offramp in Lake Forest
An 82-year-old woman died Thursday after being struck by a semitruck as she crossed an offramp in Lake Forest, police said.
Dorothy Melamed of Laguna Woods was hit about 3 p.m. in a crosswalk on the El Toro Road offramp of the northbound Interstate 5, investigators said. She was taken Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, where she died about 45 minutes later.
“We don’t know whether she was at fault or the driver was. It’s under investigation,” said Officer Mark Reeves, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.
The offramp was closed by investigators for about 90 minutes.
