Woman, 82, Is Killed by Semitruck in Crosswalk

An 82-year-old woman died Thursday after being struck by a semitruck as she crossed a street in Lake Forest, authorities said.
Dorothy Melamed of Laguna Woods was hit about 3 p.m. in a crosswalk on El Toro Road at the offramp for northbound Interstate 5. She was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, where she died about 45 minutes later.
“It’s unknown whether the pedestrian walked out in front of the vehicle or if the vehicle hit the pedestrian,” said Officer Mark Reeves of the California Highway Patrol.
The accident closed the offramp for about 90 minutes.
