The Old College Try Not Enough in Soccer

Bruce Arena, you are brilliant! Keep all those old Virginia defenders in the match. Are you dreaming of the days over a decade ago in the ACC when Agoos and Armas were fit and playing against 18-, 19-and 20-something American meatheads with no skill? How come with our melting pot of a country, we seem to only be able to field players from the University of Virginia, UCLA, or other countries? These fake citizens have no chance of playing on their own countries’ national teams, why do we think they are going to take us to that level when they cannot even make it there?

How come in our nation’s capital, there were more Honduran fans than anything? The only venues where we Americans outnumber our oppositions fans are Lamar Hunt stadiums, because even foreigners don’t want to go to Columbus!

I remember when Heidi” preempted the Jet-Raider game. Now, during the live World Cup qualifying game in Washington, D.C., ESPN2 preempts its scheduled soccer match between the USA and Honduras halfway through the second half to show a taped NFL preseason show.

I would rather watch “Heidi” again than the NFL preseason show.
