Miami quarterback Ken Dorsey spent the fourth quarter pacing the sideline with a towel draped over his head. All Dorsey had left to do was wait for next week’s game against No. 15 Washington.

Dorsey threw for 315 yards and two touchdowns as the top-ranked Miami Hurricanes overcame several early miscues in sloppy conditions and hammered Rutgers, 61-0, Saturday at Miami.

Miami (2-0, 1-0 in the Big East) remained unbeaten in nine games against Rutgers (1-1, 0-1) and has outscored the Scarlet Knights, 180-6, the last three years.

Rutgers Coach Greg Schiano, Miami’s defensive coordinator the last two years, didn’t have the players to stop the trend Saturday. It didn’t help that his team had eight fumbles and lost five in a steady rain.

Miami, playing its first game as the No. 1 team in almost nine years, scored on offense, defense and special teams to improve to 22-5 all-time as the top-ranked team.

The Hurricanes racked up 542 yards of offense and held the Scarlet Knights to 126 total yards.

Dorsey was 14-of-25 passing for 275 yards with an interception.
