A fall advisory calls for walking shoes and maybe even hard hats for the first weekend in October for the Pasadena Heritage 10th Anniversary Craftsman Weekend.

The Arts and Crafts movement will be the subject of the events Oct. 5-7, with receptions and tours at various locales, including Gamble House on Oct. 5.

The rest of the weekend will include docent-led tours of six fully restored Craftsman-style homes as well as a separate “Hard Hat” tour at the Samuel Merrill House, where experts will outline restoration plans.

Also, two “Hard Hat” half-day workshops for people seeking in-depth information about renovating in the Craftsman style will be available Oct. 6 at the Greene & Greene Emma Black House.

Ticket prices vary depending on the event. Call (626) 441-6333 or check out https://www.pasadenaheritage.org for information.

Keep the walking shoes handy to cover the 9,000 square feet of Design House 2001, the annual fund-raiser for the Assistance League of Southern California, Oct. 2-Nov. 4.

This year’s event takes over a classical revival estate from circa 1910 in the Windsor Square section of Los Angeles, adjacent to Hancock Park.

At least 20 designers volunteered their time to make over the main house, two-story guest house and nanny’s cottage.

Call (323) 469-1973 for details and tickets, which are $17 in advance and $20 opening day.

L.A. Modern Auctions officially joins Butterfields auction house in Hollywood for their first sale together Sept. 23, presenting 20th century decorative arts.

LAMA owners Shannon and Peter Loughrey are subletting their former space on Beverly Boulevard in West Hollywood and have moved their operations to Butterfields on Sunset Boulevard.

The couple, now employed by Butterfields, are known for expertise in 20th century design.

“We were asked to take over their 20th century decorative arts department,” Shannon Loughrey explained of LAMA’s move in May to the auction house.
