Spill Fouls Seal Beach Shoreline

Share

A sewage spill in La Habra closed 1,000 feet of Seal Beach shoreline Monday, officials said.

A blocked line is suspected of sending about 2,100 gallons of sewage onto Imperial Highway in La Habra, said Monica Mazur, spokeswoman for the Orange County Health Care Agency.

About 225 gallons were recovered, but the rest entered Imperial Channel, which drains into Coyote Creek, the San Gabriel River and the Pacific just north of Seal Beach, she said.

The ocean from the river mouth to 1,000 feet southeast along the coast is off limits until Thursday, Mazur said.

The incident is the 38th this year in which an Orange County beach has been closed because the water was fouled by human waste, Mazur said.

Last year, there were 40 spills that caused beach closures.
