From Staff and Wire Reports

Drew Bledsoe’s doctors determined his organs were not damaged on a tackle that caused internal bleeding in his chest, New England Patriot Coach Bill Belichick said Tuesday.

The quarterback still was expected to miss at least two games, but he could be released from the hospital as soon as today.

A chest tube doctors inserted to alleviate bleeding probably will be removed today and Bledsoe should be released in the next day or two, Belichick said.

Mayor James Hahn on Tuesday sent a letter to NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue offering Los Angeles as an alternative site for the upcoming Super Bowl game.

Scheduling conflicts with the city of New Orleans, where Super Bowl VI is scheduled to be held, could mean that the game would have to be held in another city.

Tagliabue has said that the Super Bowl will be rescheduled for Feb. 3, one week after its original date, because of lost games when the league halted play following the terrorist attacks.

The delay has been complicated by a large convention planned by the National Automobile Dealers Association for the same date in New Orleans.

Dallas Cowboy Coach Dave Campo respects Emmitt Smith’s opinion about the team’s quarterback, but doesn’t agree with him.

Campo reiterated that rookie Quincy Carter, if he is healthy, will be the starting quarterback for the Cowboys. Smith believes third-year pro Anthony Wright should have the job.

Campo said the only thing that has changed the situation was the thumb injury Carter suffered on his throwing hand during a Sept. 12 practice.

Washington Coach Marty Schottenheimer said he will consider starting Tony Banks in place of Jeff George in Sunday’s home opener against Kansas City.

The Redskins (0-2) have been outscored, 67-3.

They will be without linebacker LaVar Arrington, who has a sprained ligament in his right knee and could be out several weeks.
