A Los Angeles man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges that he escaped from jail last summer using a fake identification card that bore a photo of Eddie Murphy, authorities said.

Kevin Jerome Pullum, 31, walked out of the downtown Twin Towers Correctional Facility on July 6, hours after he had been convicted of attempted murder in a Van Nuys courtroom, officials said.

In making his escape, officials said, Pullum wore street clothes under his jail uniform, which he removed and dumped in a tunnel. He had just been bused back to the jail from Van Nuys. Pullum, a three-strikes offender who is serving 65 years in prison as a result of the attempted murder conviction, spent 16 days eluding authorities.
