Storr Will Get Rare Start in Goal

Backup goaltender Jamie Storr will make only his 12th start of the season but his third against the Mighty Ducks in today’s regular-season finale at Staples Center, ending a string of 21 in a row by Felix Potvin.

“Jamie deserves to play and the guys are excited about him getting the chance,” Coach Andy Murray said before Saturday’s game against the San Jose Sharks.

Storr, whose 2.03 goals-against average and .917 save percentage would rank among the league leaders if he’d played enough minutes, is 1-0-1 against the Ducks with a 1.92 goals-against average and .935 save percentage.

Potvin’s appearance Saturday was his 71st of the season, breaking Rogie Vachon’s 24-year-old club record for games played by a goaltender. Potvin has played 4,071 minutes, 36 short of Vachon’s club record.

Veteran forward Kelly Buchberger is expected to be back in the King lineup today after sitting out Saturday because of a leg injury. Rookie Jaroslav Bednar took his place.

Club President Tim Leiweke and General Manager Dave Taylor will give their annual “State of the Kings” address at 10:30 this morning at Staples Center, answering season ticket-holders’ questions for about an hour.

Paul Pressler, the executive who oversees the Ducks and Angels for Disney, said that he is close to filling the senior vice president job for the Ducks. Pressler has finished interviewing candidates for the position, which will handle the business operations for the team.

Duck defenseman Keith Carney, out with a cut on his right elbow, may have exploratory surgery to determine the extent of damage to the torn bursa sac in the elbow. Carney has also been bothered by a bruised hip. The injuries have kept him out of five of the team’s last seven games.

Defenseman Pavel Trnka will play today and will then undergo surgery on the middle finger of his right hand after the season.
