Embarrassed School Officials Remove Books

High school officials in this Northern California town have pulled several books after realizing they contain profanity or sexually explicit themes.
Colusa school district officials expressed embarrassment Tuesday that the books were not scrutinized before being given to ninth-graders at Colusa High School.
The books in question were “Way Past Cool,” “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” and “Tenderness.” Two other books, “Imani All Mine” by Connie Porter and “Bad” by Jean Ferris, also have been pulled because of their content, Principal Bob Hulbert said.
Some parents were outraged that the teacher had not read the books before distributing them.
