A teenager was charged Saturday with bludgeoning his older brother to death with a hammer, and another youth was also in custody in connection with the crime.

Ian Bishop, 14, was being held without bail on adult charges of criminal homicide and aggravated assault, according to state police in Greensburg, about 25 miles east of Pittsburgh.

Police said Bishop had called a friend Friday afternoon, and the friend’s mother then drove to Bishop’s home in Hempfield, where she found his 18-year-old brother, Adam, with severe head wounds. He died at a Pittsburgh hospital that night.

“The boy’s mother saw what happened, and she was the one who called 911,” state police Lt. Robert Weaver said. He didn’t elaborate on what the friend’s mother overheard or was told.

Zack Rollins, a neighbor and friend of both brothers, said he was shocked to hear police had arrested the 14-year-old.

“I didn’t know of anything wrong going between him and his brother,” he said.
