Alaska Airlines Shifts Route Plans

Alaska Airlines announced this week that it is dropping a planned new route from Long Beach Airport to Seattle after Long Beach city officials refused to grant the carrier temporary slots to begin the service.
Instead, Alaska’s regional affiliate, Horizon Air, has applied with the city to operate three daily flights from Long Beach to Seattle starting Oct. 6.
Noise restrictions limit flights at the airport to 41 per day. Several airlines have requested slots this year, including American Airlines, which has started temporary service to New York and Chicago. Jet Blue Airways holds 27 of the airport’s slots.
