Opponent: Detroit Tigers

Series: Monday, 7 p.m.; Tuesday, 7 p.m.; Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Site: Edison Field.

Matchup: It speaks volumes about the state of the Tigers that pitcher Jeff Weaver appears to be happier in the Yankee bullpen than he was as the ace of the Detroit staff. In an interview with CBS Sportsline, Weaver ripped interim Manager Luis Pujols--”If they want any direction in the future, I would hope they would find another manager. I don’t think there’s any respect over there for the manager and that’s half the problem”--and said of Tiger President and General Manager Dave Dombrowski: “He likes to have people around him to control.”

Opponent: Cleveland Indians

Series: Friday, 7 p.m.; Saturday, 7 p.m.; Sunday, 5 p.m.

Site: Edison Field.

Matchup: The Indian uniforms are the same, but the people wearing them are not the ones who opened the season in Anaheim. Right-hander Bartolo Colon, who shut out the Angels on opening night, was traded to the Expos. Russell Branyan was traded to the Reds. Chuck Finley was traded to the Cardinals. Paul Shuey was traded to the Dodgers. Ricardo Rincon was traded to the A’s. Brady Anderson was released. Manager Charlie Manuel was fired. The Indians’ run of eight consecutive winning seasons is coming to a crashing halt.
