A 16-year-old youth who escaped from custody last week after he was taken to a clinic for medical attention has been recaptured, officials said Wednesday.

Steven Frazier was arrested in Compton after authorities received a tip, according to Chief Probation Officer Richard Shumsky.

“I’d like to thank the citizens, [Compton] school police, and I am especially appreciative of the work of two of our probation staffers,” Shumsky said.

Frazier escaped from a probation guard at a clinic associated with the County-USC Medical Center, within walking distance of Central Juvenile Hall on Eastlake Avenue, where he was being held, Los Angeles police said.

He was the fourth young inmate to escape from Juvenile Hall’s custody in recent weeks.

Los Angeles County supervisors told probation officials Tuesday to work with county health officials to provide health care for juveniles within the walls of juvenile halls.
