He Feels at Home at Del Mar

Share

One of the better Del Mar specialists of recent memory will be back in action this afternoon. Stormy Jack, a 5-year-old son of Bertrando, will make his first start since March 3 in the sixth, a $70,000 optional claimer at six furlongs.

Owned and bred by Jack and Florence Arnold and trained by Bob Baffert, Stormy Jack has started five times at Del Mar. He has won four of those races and was third in his loss. He was beaten going a flat mile and he is a far better horse around one turn.

If Stormy Jack, who will be ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye, is to make a successful return, he’ll have to beat, among others, another veteran who has done well by the beach.

Lebontempsroulet, a 5-year-old gray son of At The Threshold, has won two of four at Del Mar, most recently in his first start of the meet on Aug. 1. Owned by Don Barber and Jose DeLima and trained by DeLima, Lebontempsroulet won by two lengths at 3-1 in a race that included favored Mighty David.

David Flores will again ride the Kentucky-bred, who will break from post 2 in the field of six.
