Actor, plays Capt. Hicks on “BoomTown” and is featured in tonight’s holiday special “The Christmas Shoes” on CBS.

“My favorite drama is ‘The West Wing.’ I like the writing -- it’s got very snappy, very witty, very intelligent dialogue and lots of great performances, of course. Now, ‘The Simpsons’ has got to be one of my favorite shows. It’s a bit irreverent, but I excuse everything because it’s so smart. Yeah, and Homer is my favorite character. He’s such a lovable goof.”

“Well my all-time favorite TV show’s got to be ‘The Andy Griffith Show.’ I come from a small town in Kentucky and we had people like the people in Mayberry. Now, my wife and I watch ‘CSI.’ We watch all of the ‘CSIs,’ when they’re in Miami, Las Vegas, all of them. We love ‘Law & Order’ too, and we watch ‘Third Watch’ and ‘Crossing Jordan.’ I love how those people solve cases.I like to watch PBS, and PBS has done a lot to promote bluegrass in the last year. In fact, next year I’m going to be one of ‘The Three Pickers,’ on PBS -- it’s a take off on the Three Tenors. It’ll be Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs and myself.

“Television has always had an element of the illicit for me because I grew up without one. My hotel viewing experiences are obsessive. I watch ‘The Sopranos’ with extraordinary interest. It’s a fabulously comical way of looking at psychoanalysis. We have one Charlie Rose. I wish there was more of that. When in Europe, I’m particularly intrigued by how different the news is reported there. If you watch CNN in Europe and CNN here, it’s quite a different ordeal. News here moves at such a quicker pace.”
