2 Men Are Injured, 1 Critically, in El Rio Drive-By Shooting
Two men were injured early Saturday in a drive-by shooting in El Rio, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said.
Salvador Martinez, 27, was in critical condition Saturday night at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard after undergoing surgery for bullet wounds in his abdomen and thigh, sheriff’s officials said.
Fernando Candido, 26, was in fair condition at Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, with gunshot wounds in his thigh, shoulder and neck.
Martinez and Candido, who are neighbors, were in Martinez’s garage in the 300 block of Will Street about 4 a.m. when a car carrying up to four men drove past. One of the occupants began firing through the open garage door before the car sped away.
Neighbors reported hearing gunfire and called deputies.
Authorities do not have a description of the car or a motive, but detectives are investigating whether the incident was gang-related.
