Purdue Stays Unbeaten by Stopping Vanderbilt

Erika Valek scored 16 of her career-high 23 points in the second half to help No. 6 Purdue defeat No. 8 Vanderbilt, 73-66, Saturday at Tempe, Ariz., in the AstraZeneca Hoops for the Cure Classic II, a benefit for breast-cancer research.

Shereka Wright had 14 points for the Boilermakers (6-0), who are off to their best start since the 1992-93 team won its first eight. Jenni Benningfield scored 15 points for Vanderbilt (4-1).

No. 2 Louisiana State 61, Alabama State 19 -- Giving up the fewest points in school history, the Tigers (6-0) won easily at Baton Rouge, La.

No. 7 Kansas State 60, Weber State 36 -- Kendra Wecker scored 18 points for the host Wildcats (8-1) in the Commerce Bank Classic final.

No. 9 Notre Dame 81, Arizona State 52 -- Jacqueline Batteast scored 24 points for the Fighting Irish (4-0) at Tempe, Ariz.
