Immigrants’ Struggle Is Way of Life
I am sick of hearing about the struggle of those who attempt to enter the U.S. illegally (“Thirst,” by Susan Straight, Nov. 17). Yes, it is difficult. Did you think you were the only ones to struggle? What about all of the other immigrants to this country? Do you think they rolled off the boat to a middle-class life of privilege and rounds of golf? Do you think they immediately sent their children to college?
After you have paid your dues, and the blood of your fathers and sons and husbands has been shed for this country, cry to me. The people who traverse the desert are willing to die to get here. Join the crowd. Many others have died to come to this free country. They understand the risks.
