Home Auctioned to Pay Slain Family’s Debts
From Times Wire Reports
The home and belongings of a couple and their daughter who were killed in August were auctioned by relatives to pay family debts. About 250 participants observed a moment of silence for Michael and Mary Short and 9-year-old Jennifer before starting bidding.
The couple were found dead in their Bassett home Aug. 15. Jennifer was missing until Sept. 24, when her remains were found in North Carolina. The case remains unsolved.
The auction raised about $140,000 to pay off back taxes and other debts.
