Man Found Guilty of False Bomb Threats

An aspiring screenwriter was found guilty Tuesday of making false bomb threats at the Los Angeles Times in a scare that forced the evacuation of the newspaper building and the closure of two downtown blocks in late July.
Frederick Bernard Cheaves, 31, told a guard he had a device in his book bag to trigger a bomb. The bag contained only papers.
A Superior Court jury deliberated 10 hours. Cheaves, scheduled for sentencing Jan. 7, faces up to four years and eight months in prison.
