USC offensive coordinator Norm Chow on Wednesday won the Broyles Award, which is presented annually to the nation’s top assistant coach.

And Chow, who attended a dinner and award presentation in Little Rock, Ark., said he intends to remain an assistant under Coach Pete Carroll with the Trojans.

Chow was regarded as a candidate to replace Ron McBride at Utah, his alma mater, but Urban Meyer of Bowling Green accepted the Utah job on Wednesday.

Chow’s name also surfaced Wednesday for the job at Kentucky.

“I have not heard from Kentucky, nor do I think I will,” Chow said. “I just want to stay at USC and see what happens from there.”

Chow said he and his wife were moved by the ovation he received Monday night during the team’s annual awards banquet. A capacity crowd in the ballroom at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel erupted in applause and gave Chow a prolonged ovation when he was introduced.

“That was enough for my wife and I to say we’re not leaving,” Chow said. “We want to be Trojans. I want to work for Pete Carroll and help him win a national championship.”
