You really don’t need a car to be a man about town.

Twenty-two-year-old Eduardo Sarabia may not have a car, but that doesn’t stop him from getting around L.A. The recent Otis graduate and native Angeleno, who favors public transportation and a silver 1964 Lambretta scooter to get around, is represented by the I-20 Gallery in New York and has his first West Coast solo exhibition currently at the Santa Monica Museum of Art.

I grew up in Boyle Heights right near the Sears tower in the projects. I like going back there. I really like the people. More artists are looking for spaces down there. I’d love to have a studio down there someday.

My favorite Mexican food restaurant is called Ciro’s. It’s on Evergreen just north of Cesar Chavez, across the street from El Tepeyac. It’s tiny. You could drive by and miss it. It looks like someone’s apartment from the outside. It has the best home cooking.

I like going there for breakfast on Sundays -- their huevos rancheros and chilaquiles are the best.

Is it April yet?

When it’s baseball season, I go to Dodger games. It was one of the reasons I moved to Chinatown. Cheap rent and close to Dodger Stadium. I walk up. It’s just up the hill. It’s the only exercise I get. I go as often as I can. They have all these new family bargains so I usually buy a pack of tickets. It used to drive my girlfriend crazy. I was like, “I have to go!” She would bring a sweater to knit. I even visit the Dodger store during off-season to buy gifts.

In transit

I really like riding the subway. I’m one of the few Angelenos that doesn’t have a car. I take advantage of public transportation. I take the DASH over to Union Station for a quarter, and then take the subway to the Hollywood Farmers Market or to Long Beach. I like to walk around the aquarium or go to the beach and then come back. I usually take books and read while I’m traveling. I have no intention of getting a car. It’s easy to borrow one.

Ensenada

When I have some extra money I’ll rent a car and go down to Ensenada. I have a cousin who lives there. I usually go and stay at a hotel and go to the beach and walk around. Really mellow, simple. I was just there. It’s currently swordfish season, and we had the best swordfish steaks and ceviche. Mexico’s the best. I jump at the chance to go anytime. That’s what’s great about living in L.A.: Mexico is really close and the mountains are really close. In the winter, I like to go snowboarding. I’ll go to Snow Summit midweek and stay overnight in Big Bear.

Museums

The Huntington Library has really interesting stuff other than just paintings. The gardens are really nice to walk around too. They had this amazing show earlier this year about this guy who was in prison during the Civil War (“Eye of the Storm: The Civil War Drawings of Robert Knox Sneden”) who made these prison drawings. He had to hide the drawings in his jacket and then he’d sew a patch over them so they wouldn’t be taken away by the guards. They were the most amazing drawings I’d ever seen.
