A Holiday Memory for the Garage

Share

The gift guide for holiday shopping (“Home for the Holidays,” Nov. 24) may have heralded the start of the Christmas season in a uniquely Southern California way. Its emphasis on retro-inspired objects reminds us how influential the 1960s still are in shaping Los Angeles. However, the inclusion of the aluminum Christmas tree also is a reminder that not all of what was produced in the ‘60s was worthwhile or even worth preserving. Some of your readers may recall that the original trees were illuminated with a rotating color wheel lamp that caused the tree to change from one garish hue to another in a matter of seconds. It is one artifact better left in storage.
