The $100,000 Pete Axthelm Stakes and $100,000 Frances A. Genter Stakes will be the secondary attractions on today’s card at Calder in Miami.

Laffit Pincay Jr., the world’s winningest jockey who is marching toward 10,000 career victories, will be honored by both Calder and Presidente Ramon, the track in Panama where he began his career more than 38 years ago.

Pincay, sidelined by a suspension at Hollywood Park for a week, hopes to do some winning while he’s in Florida. He will ride Heyahohowdy in the Genter, named after the late owner of 1990 Kentucky Derby winner Unbridled, and The Judge Sez Who in the Axthelm, named in honor of the late sportswriter and broadcaster.

Fourth in his most recent outing, the Mrs. Revere Stakes at Churchill Downs, Heyahohowdy was a two-time stakes winner in Canada and will be facing, among others, Nonsuch Bay, the winner of the Mother Goose, a Grade I, this year at Belmont Park. Nonsuch Bay will be making her first start on the grass.

In the Axthelm, which goes at 7 1/2 furlongs on turf, The Judge Sez Who will be seeking his eighth win in 20 starts for owner Sez Who Racing and trainer Marty Wolfson.

Race of the day: Golden Ticket, who has been rejuvenated at the Hollywood Park meet, will try for his third consecutive win in the sixth, a starter allowance at 1 3/8 miles on the dirt.

Who’s hot: Ron Warren Jr. At Golden Gate Fields, only perennial champion jockey Russell Baze is winning at a higher percentage.

Who’s not: John Quiles and Robert Triola. The two New York-based trainers are a combined five for 130 in 2002.

Exotically speaking: A pick four singling Golden Ticket in the sixth; using Sweet Stepper, Sudden Glory, Brazil Nut, Color Prospector and Dream Weekend in the seventh; Roll Hennessy Roll and Toccet in the eighth and Wheaton One, Wild Horse Jones and Song Minister in the ninth.
