ETA Suspect Escapes Two Days After Arrest

A suspected top military commander of the armed Basque separatist group ETA has escaped from police custody in the southwestern French city of Bayonne, authorities said.
Ibon Fernandez Iradi, alleged to be one of the leaders of ETA’s military structure, bolted two days after his arrest. ETA has killed 838 people since 1968 to press its demands for an independent state in northern Spain and southwestern France.
