Beyond “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers,” some films posted robust figures in limited debuts or gradual expansions to capitalize on Golden Globe nominations. New Line’s “About Schmidt” grew from six to 26 theaters, averaging a healthy $23,143 per location. The Jack Nicholson motor-home trip’s $601,711 for the weekend brought its 10-day total to just over $1 million.

“Adaptation” widened by 102 theaters to 109, averaging $10,165 per site, giving the Sony release a weekend total of $1.1 million and $2.1 million to date.

Spike Lee’s “25th Hour” clocked an impressive $21,773 per theater over the weekend in five theaters, two in L.A. and three in New York. Since the Disney/Touchstone release opened Thursday, it has grossed $130,833.

Also opening on Thursday, Fox Searchlight’s “Antwone Fisher” brought in $210,103 in 15 theaters Friday through Sunday, averaging a healthy $14,007. Its four-day total is $218,708.

Paramount opened “Narc” in six theaters Friday, tallying $63,303 or 10,551 per theater.
