City to Offer Classes on Disaster Preparedness
Search-and-rescue techniques, basic triage procedures and disaster preparedness will be the focus of an annual training course being offered to residents by the Oxnard Fire Department, officials said this week.
Students in the Community Emergency Response Team program will attend five weekly classes at a fire station on South K Street. The program will end with a three-hour mock disaster drill and graduation ceremony.
“Besides being able to help themselves and their neighbors in the event of a disaster, students take away with them the skills and confidence needed to help deal with life’s everyday emergencies,” said Fire Capt. Bill Gallaher.
