Potential Burn Hazard Spurs Oven Recall
A Huntington Beach company is recalling about 2,460 Thermador gas ranges because inadequate ventilation causes the oven door to get too hot, exposing users to possible burns.
The ranges, sold nationwide from March 1998 to November 2001, have caused no injuries but are a “potential burn hazard,” said Nychelle Fleming of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, which announced the recall Monday.
BSH Home Appliances Corp., which manufactures the 48-inch stainless steel ranges in Tennessee, said it had received one report of dangerously high temperatures because of the defect. The ranges, which cost $5,540 to $6,370, feature a small and large oven side by side.
Consumers should stop using the small oven immediately, but the large oven and range are safe, Fleming said. They should contact a Thermador service center to arrange a free repair.

In May, BSH voluntarily recalled 2,300 Thermador combination microwave ovens because the door failed to lock properly during self-cleaning, creating a potential fire hazard. No injuries were reported. The company corrected the problem, said Gary Ball, Thermador brand manager for BSH.
The company, a unit of BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgerate of Munich, Germany, is based in Huntington Beach.
