Chick Seeks Removal of City Hall Barricades
Los Angeles City Controller Laura Chick called on other city officials Wednesday to remove the concrete barricades encircling City Hall, calling them ineffective and a drain on city resources.
The barricades were put in place around the Civic Center complex after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. They block access to the streets around City Hall and force pedestrians through a narrow opening as they approach the building.
Julie Wong, a spokeswoman for Mayor James K. Hahn, said the mayor supports making the public buildings more accessible, and is still studying the matter of what to do with the barricades.
