Rackauckas Says He’s for Great Park at El Toro

Share

Dist. Atty. Tony Rackauckas said he will vote next month in favor of converting the closed El Toro Marine Corps Air Station into a public park instead of the airport envisioned by county authorities.

“It’s very important for people to decide the quality-of-life issue of whether there should be an airport in the heart of our county,” he said Thursday during an interview with an anti-airport Web site.

Rackauckas said his vote was personal and not an endorsement of Measure W, which will be on the March 5 primary ballot.

He is being challenged for reelection on the same ballot by Deputy Dist. Atty. Wally Wade, who has courted anti-airport forces.
